Decorate Your Home Using Christmas Flowers

By Paul Richard

The holiday of Christmas represents the spirit of giving and sharing, & happiness & joy. In the same manner, Christmas flowers represent the same. They symbolize hope in both the people who receive them those that give them. Also, these Christmas flower bouquets aren't just for gifts-they can also easily brighten up any home in addition to traditional festive decorations.

The poinsettia usually comes to mind when you hear "Christmas flowers". However, colors also represent Christmas a great deal. Red, green, white, and even violet are usually connected to the holiday season, so putting them together in a flower arrangement (sometimes regardless of the types of flowers used) generally already signify the holidays.

An arrangement of poinsettias would be the safest bet when keeping Christmas tradition. The rich red tint of the flower and its star-shaped leaves provide a wonderful, Christmassy contrast against other lush ferns & green leaves.

The Winter rose, sometimes referred to as the Christmas Rose, is another good choice for your Christmas arrangement. It is a delicate, creamy-hued bloom with large buds which can be seen along the mountains of central Europe during winter.

South African blooms called Gerberas, with their deep colours & thick petals, can also be chosen for this. Let your florist to combine them with several colors of lilies, orchids, daisies, or even red and yellow roses to create a beautiful holiday bouquet or centerpiece.

Other flowers commonly used in Christmas arrangements are carnations, iris, tulips & mums.

Lastlye, ask your florist to add a "Christmas feeling" to your bouquet with several leaves and decorations. The use of holly, pine cones and leaves, boxwood, rough juniper, noble fir, fern or cedar leaves, sparkling thistle, silver twigs, and ilex berries to decorate the bouquets contribute to that festive look. Your florist can even try using artificial items like ceramic or plastic snowmen, reindeer, pine cones, colored ribbons and Christmas tree balls could contribute to a special holiday arrangement. - 32605
